Natural Weight Loss Physiology

I love Dr. Lark’s natural weight loss plan because, quite simply, it makes so much sense. As any good holistic physician does, she first looks to the chemical imbalances that may be causing the excess weight.

I am not unlike many of her patients that have been frustrated by weight loss efforts. It seemed like no matter how much or little I ate or how hard I worked out, my weight either didn’t budge or crept up the scale. Little did I know that I had a number of specific chemical imbalances that were causing me to gain weight, and making it difficult to take to the pounds off, and making me resistant to any natural weight loss plan.

In my case, I suffered from thyroid dysfunction; estrogen dominance; and food allergies (which can cause the accumulation of inflammatory fluids, or "false fat"). Other chemical imbalances that can lead to weight gain include insulin resistance; slowing of the metabolism (a normal part of the aging process); and imbalances in brain chemistry that cause mood disturbance, such as depression.

To correct these chemical imbalances, I altered my diet a bit and took targeted nutritional supplements such as maca and fish oil, as well as chromium to help bring my body chemistry back into balance. I also tried kelp and iodine for my thyroid, but ended up needing to use a prescription to achieve the effects I was looking for. Sure enough, I found that in doing this, my weight started to slide back down the scale.

By assessing the "weak links" in your body chemistry (those chemical pathways that are not working efficiently), and then correcting them, you can begin to achieve your ideal weight and enjoy natural weight loss safely and effectively.
