Imagine my shock when I received an eye-opening email from naturalnews.com lambasting President-elect Obama’s purported choice for U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
What mainly shocked me was how little I knew about the CNN medical journalist. According to the article, Dr. Gupta is “a strong proponent of the Gardasil HPV vaccine,” the vaccine that purports to protect against the HPV virus, which has been linked to cervical cancer. The article goes on to point out that a show Dr. Gupta once hosted was primarily sponsored by the makers of Gardasil.
As a natural health writer and someone well versed in hormonal health, I am incredibly opposed to receiving any type of vaccine unnecessarily. There is such a myriad of evidence showing a plausible connection between vaccinations and autism, as well as other health issues, that I cannot possibly support the idea of giving young girls yet another vaccine.
More importantly, they have yet to prove conclusively that the vaccine actually works as intended. And the side effects are more than any little girl should be expected to endure. Plus, as Dr. Lark has written in her newsletter, while there is a connection between HPV and cervical cancer, there are mitigating factors that need to be present for the virus to manifest as cancer. Moreover, as Dr. Lark writes in her May 2007 newsletter, “This vaccine sends young girls the message that their health depends on vaccination rather than on healthy immune systems—which can actually be harmed by overvaccination.”
For this reason, as well as a few others, I am seriously disappointed in President-elect Obama and this choice. As this country wasn’t skeptical enough, now we may be slated to get yet another appointed official with questionable ties…this time to the pharmaceutical industry.
Come on Obama! If you want to walk the walk and not just talk the talk, how about appointing a Surgeon General that isn’t more of the same and will actually implement changes to our current health care system? One good example offered by naturalnews.com reporter Mike Adams is Dr. Julian Whitaker. As Adams writes, “Dr. Whitaker would teach the American people how to cure diabetes, heart disease and cancer using nutritional therapies.” Amen! Now that would be a change for sure!
Of course, Obama could take Adams’ suggestion to the next level and prove to America that he isn’t simply putting a new coat of paint on the same old White House. How? Appoint a female alternative health physician as Surgeon General. I can think of at least one that would fit the bill quite nicely!
